Doing helper work, Phoenix Schutzhund Club, 1985

The clubhouse at the Schutzhund club I was a part of in Germany

I was introduced to dogs at an early age when my father brought home terriers, Rottweilers, and eventually a German Shepherd puppy named, Falco. I then discovered the sport of IGP/Schutzhund and was immediately hooked. I became heavily involved with Arizona Valley Schutzhund Club and Phoenix Schutzhund where I learned the ins and outs of helper work. I then titled several Rottweilers and for my first scHh3 title with my first German Shepherd, Chip.

With this newfound passion, I decided to move to Germany to immerse myself in the training, the culture, and everything about the breed. I lived there for 5 years and was a part of the club OG Tangen in Southern Germany. I was lucky to be around some of the best trainers and breeders. my early mentors included, Reinhard Lidner, Jurgen Ritzi, Elmar Mannes, and Roman Schuler.

When I moved back from Germany in 2000, I took a break from training to raise my son, Noah, and worked in social services as well as in law enforcement for the Sheriffs department. Even with changes in life and careers, I always continued my breeding program and sustained my passion for the breed.

A kennel was born

Original Kennel certification from the SV in Germany

After raising, training and competing with multiple shepherd dogs in the sport of Schutzhund, the dream of living abroad became a reality, In 1998 my kennel was established in Germany with the National German Shepherd Dog Club “SV”.  My dogs and I competed together at the Landesaussheidung Wurtemburg and Baden in 1997, 1997 and Bayern-Sud in 1999. In 1997 we competed at our first German National Championship the Bundessiegerprufung. In 1998 we placed 29th overall at the Bundessiegerprufung made possible by high placings at the VDH Bundes Qualification trial in Hermeskeil placing,  the SV FCI Bundes Qualification trial in Parderborn and the 7-Landerwettkampf in Reutte, Austria. My time in Germany was grounded in the living and learning from the German people and my mentors.

Since returning to the US in 2000, numerous dogs from our kennel have become regional Schutzhund Champions. We produced the Canadian National Sieger and the Trinidad-Tobago National Siegerin. One of our dogs even presented the USA National IGP World team in Randers, Denmark in 2022. Equally as important, our dogs are serving police and Sheriff’’s Offices around the country and providing companionship and peace of mind to many families around the country and abroad.
